MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (CNN/WISN) -- Teenage girls spend weeks thinking about their prom outfits and the whole day getting ready. A group of them in Wisconsin expected their perfect looks to last all night, instead, they were soaking wet in a matter of minutes.

Miranda Sachtschale and her date Matt Timm both juniors at Kettle Moraine, had a magically memorable prom this past weekend. Matt says, "It's completely unexpected. It doesn't even happen on TV, and all of a sudden here it is happening to us."

They, along with a number of other friends, came to these waters of Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc on Saturday to take a group photo before prom. Timm says, "The person behind was like, 'Everyone on, get on,'"

Little did they know as they stood on a wooden pier they were about to make a life-long memory. Jacqueline Rosch says, "I heard like, one crack, and then the whole thing collapsed from under us."

Sydney Rogers can be seen climbing back up a little worse for the wear. Her date, Josh had a slightly different reaction, he thought it was funny.

On the left side of the picture is Ryan Skrove, who is now considered a hero by his girlfriend, Anne McCormack, for his quick reaction as the wood deck fell from below them. Skrove says, "I just grabbed her and then managed to keep my feet on the beams without falling through."

Soaking wet, the girls and guys were pulled from the water. They were running so many hair dryers they actually blew a breaker in the house. But with some borrowed shirts for the guys and some touch-up on the makeup for the girls, the group finally made it to the prom with their greatest memory already in hand. Skrove says, "We're laughing about it now and it's hilarious, and I'm sure my kids will laugh at it. It'll be remembered a long time."

No one was injured. They offered some advice to any students taking part in upcoming proms: Check the pier before going out for pictures.
