ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A Florida postal worker says he became seriously ill after he handled a mysterious leaking package from Yemen. But the Postal Service denies the package ever existed.
In a story published in Sunday's Miami Herald, the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting says Jeffrey Lill suffers from extreme fatigue, tremors, and liver and neurological problems consistent with toxic exposure. He says the problems began after he handled the leaking package on Feb. 4, 2011.
He says it had a return address in Yemen, was leaking a brown, viscous substance, and had tubes and wires sticking out.
But the Postal Service says the incident never happened. Its lawyer said in a letter that there was a harmless spill two days earlier, but that nothing happened on the day Lill says he was injured.
