LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV/CNN) -- Do you think women should be able to take part in combat? The Pentagon this week gave the go ahead for women to be assigned to serve in combat battalions.
The Pentagon opened 14,000 combat-related roles to women serving in the Army. CNN reports women had been excluded from those jobs because their roles were either close to ground combat or directly involved in combat.
Advocates pushed for change in policy since women already risk their lives by serving on the front lines in patrols and in risky military police and security units.
