LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a wig-wearing 24-year-old Southern California man is jailed and a second man is sought after an attempt to pepper spray a blackjack dealer and snatch $115,000 in chips at the Bellagio casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Records show that Michael Belton of Nuevo was held Monday at the Clark County jail on robbery, burglary and conspiracy charges. He's due in court on Tuesday.
Police say casino employees grabbed Belton and fought him to the casino floor before he gave up and surrendered 23 red-white-and-blue chips just before 11 p.m. Saturday. Each chip was worth $5,000.
Police say Belton's wig and sunglasses fell off during the struggle, while the other man escaped.
Belton reportedly told police he joined the robbery because he's unemployed and his grandparents are ill.
