LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A shootout in West Little Rock ends with bullets striking bystanders' cars at a gas station.
It turns out this is actually a case originating from Louisiana. Little Rock police tell Today's THV that two bail bondsmen from there were after a suspect who jumped bond and they found him in West Little Rock Monday evening.
Police say a foot-chase started at the Bristol Park Apartments and made its way across Bowman Road, ending at a Shell gas station. Police say at one point, the suspect turned around and shot at the bondsmen. They later fired at him but nobody was hit during the exchange.
Our cameras shot video of a bystander's car with a bullet hole in the passenger side and shattered glass. The vehicle's owner said it appeared to strike as he was leaving the gas station.
"As soon as I turned the key over to start the car, my key kind of split in two and I didn't realize what happened until I turned around and looked to my right and my window was kind of spider-glassed and then a hole coming from my door speaker," James Shoemaker said.
Shoemaker says he immediately told his fiancé and others in the area to get down for safety.
Little Rock police say there was a witness report of about seven shots fired during the exchange. Lt. Dana Jackson says both the suspect and two bail bondmen were taken into custody for questioning; no word on any charges at this point.
Lt. Jackson says the main thing now is getting as much as they can from both parties and seeing where to proceed from there. There is also no word at this time from police on the original offense of the suspect.
