REYKJAVIK, Iceland (CBS/EVN/ISRUV) -- The latest member of a family in Reykjavik is black, feathered and eats like there is no tomorrow; a nestling raven.

The little raven was found in a nest with two other nestlings. However, as his siblings were much larger it was obvious that the little nestling would not survive. The Reykjavik family decided to bring him to their home and feed him.

After only four days in his little basket, the nestling has put on weight and is growing stronger. Berglind Halfdansdottir says, I think the nestling is at least thirty percent bigger now and he is a lot stronger. He did not have any feathers when he first arrived, he was just like a small black chicken."

Halfdan Hordur Palsson says, "We give him eggs, dog food and sometimes fresh minced meat. He has very healthy appetite." Halfdansdottir says, "We have also chopped down some fruit for him. Ravens are omnivores and both meat and fruit is good for them. We hope to get him to the stage when he can fly. Then we will just feed him on our balcony and he can decide whether he will stay with us or go somewhere else."

The family is going to keep him until he is able to fly; after that he is free to go or stay.
