WASHINGTON (AP) - A marine biologist and television science commentator says his wife was brutally beaten and police in Washington have been investigating him.

David Guggenheim is a senior fellow at the Ocean Foundation. He says in a message to family and friends that he returned from an out-of-town trip last month to find his wife, Svetlana, with a fractured skull and brain trauma on the bedroom floor of their Washington apartment.

He says he had nothing to do with the beating and has documents showing he was out of town at the time. He posted his account on a blog last week.

Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump declined comment Thursday because the investigation is ongoing.

Guggenheim and his attorney, Aitan Goelman, also declined to comment.
