LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The state's largest festival, Riverfest, will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and last through Sunday night and Thursday crews were setting up their tents and preparing the stages for the tens of thousands of people that will flood the River Market over Memorial Day weekend.
More than 300 volunteers were out Thursday and when gates open Friday, there will be 3,300 volunteers helping out. Riverfest Board president Jordan Johnson, says it's not too late join in on the fun.
"Today we are putting on the final touches of everything. Right now, you can still get discount admission tickets at Walgreens probably through Saturday so that will save you a little bit of money," says Johnson.
The big question for most festival goers is where to park. Johnson says you can park in one of the two parking garages or various pay to park lots downtown. However, Riverfest is encouraging people to park at War Memorial Stadium, approximately 5 miles away and take a shuttle to the festival
"You can get a shuttle ride over here for $3 roundtrip and if you bring a can good, you can get a dollar off. It will only cost you $2 and also you can help put food on a child's plate," says Johnson.
Once you arrive, a new service will take the stress off your feet.
"Bicycle taxies if you will, along President Clinton avenue to and from the various points in Riverfest and that's a free offering," says Johnson. "We'll have acts going around the clock. Great food offerings this year, very affordable for families so come out and have a good time. This is the safest place to be for Memorial Day weekend."
The shuttle from War Memorial Stadium will run from the time the gates open until about 30-45 minutes after the last event each night this weekend. The Junction Pedestrian Bridge will be open so you can park in North Little Rock at Verizon arena and walk over if you'd like.
The Mariott Hotel downtown and several other businesses will be selling potty passes for$5 dollars a piece. You can opt to use those restrooms instead of the port-a-potties that will be provided.
Riverfest officials are also telling folks to be prepared for the heat, dress accordingly and as always try to stay as hydrated as possible.
