WEST LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 4, 2012) - Enrich your child's summer schedule with an exciting learning adventure led by creative, experienced teachers.
Wildwood Park for the Arts will offer eight camps this summer for a variety of ages ranging from 6-18 years old.
"Wildwood's Summer Arts Blast Camps provide a unique opportunity for students interested in the arts," says Education Programs Coordinator Sheridan Posey. "Our camps are multi-focused and offer hands-on experience in visual, musical, literary, performing, culinary, and horticultural arts."
With everything from exploring the art of Kabuki makeup to embodying animal characteristics to designing superheroes to learning how to compost, kids are sure to be entertained and educated all summer long.

An Asian Summer: Journey to the Far East
June 4-8, 2012
9:00 am - Noon
Recommended age: 9-11 years old
Instructor: Christen Bufford
Total Camp Fee: $150
Journey to the Far East through exploration of Asian culture, traditions, folklore, literature, theatre, artwork and
more! This unique camp will engage and invigorate boys and girls alike.

Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre's The Groundlings Company at Wildwood
June 11-22, 2012
9:00 am - 3:00pm
Performances: June 22-24 (Twelfth Night)
Recommended age: 10-18 year olds
Camp Fee: $400
Instructor: Josh Rice, AST Education and Outreach Coordinator
Students ages 10-18 embark on a Shakespearean adventure, receiving physical, vocal and character training from AST's professional company of actors and teaching artists in a two-week summer intensive from June 11th - 24th. The camp culminates in a fully-produced Shakespearean Green Show that will perform just prior to Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre's production of Twelfth Night at Wildwood (June 22nd-24th).

WILDKids Play!
June 25-29, 2012

Recommended age: 8-10 years old

Total Camp Fee: $150
Put on your thinking caps and brush up those acting skills to create a play with beautiful Wildwood Park as your backdrop! Students will transform children's stories into theatrical characters and playable dialogue! Family and friends are invited to enjoy the fun on the final day of camp as students enact their play throughout the Park.

Students will experience song and movement like never before as they embody loveable animal characters and their friends from popular musicals like The Lion King, An American Tale, The Jungle Book, Honk!, Suessical and many more! Family and friends are invited to a camper-inspired culminating showcase.

An Illustrated Summer: Create Your Own Comic Strip!

Delve into the amazing world of comics by developing your own superheroes, villains, and the world they live in. Students will learn through the practice of art journaling how to depict their surrounding environment, physical gestures, and create action on paper in a fully realized comic strip.

Experience the art of cooking and art in nature! Each day, students will devote half of their camp day to hands-on cooking and kitchen skills and half their day exploring nature through visual arts application. Troupe d'Jour's Midsummer Shakespeare Camp is a day-camp for building acting skills through study and performance of Shakespeare's plays, taught by professional theater artists and educators. Actors learn and develop skills in movement, voice, diction, text analysis, character development, improvisation, ensemble work, stage combat, focus and journal-keeping. While developing character for roles on stage, young actors learn
character traits for their roles in life. Through fun activities and interactive study, campers embrace responsibility, deepen comprehension skills, learn to work well with others, excel in performance, and grow in confidence and self-esteem.
