FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas tennis player Matt Walters has won the Fifth Annual Southeastern Conference Sportsmanship Award.

Walters was co-captain on a team that finished with 14 wins on the year. He has won more than 45 singles matches and 50 doubles matches in his career.

Walters was noted for his sportsmanship during a match this past season.

He had a 4-2 lead over a Louisiana State player, but his opponent mistakenly believed the score was 5-2. When Walters won the next point and the other player thought the set was done, Walters had to convince him the score was wrong and the match wasn't over.

The opponent returned to the court, won the game and the match.

Walters has done volunteer work in northwestern Arkansas and mission work in Central America.
