SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - If you have $40,000 to spend, President Barack Obama's campaign has a deal for you.
In the world of high-dollar political fundraising, a big check will get you a picture with the president and the chance to swap political strategy with him. And if you're lucky, you just might end up with a plum post as a U.S. ambassador or an invitation to an exclusive White House state dinner.
Facing tough re-election prospects, Obama is holding high-dollar fundraisers from coast to coast. Four fundraisers in California on Wednesday are expected to yield Obama at least $4.6 million.
Obama's most exclusive fundraisers cost about $40,000. There also are fundraising opportunities for donors who want to spend far less, but the lower costs usually mean fewer perks and less access to Obama.
