SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - A man accused of attacking the mayor of Higginson has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor third-degree assault.

Jerry Riley entered the plea Tuesday in Searcy District Court. He's accused of elbowing and shoving Mayor Randall Homsley after an April 9 City Council meeting.

The Daily Citizen reports (http://is.gd/i33764) at least a portion of the incident was captured on surveillance video. Riley's attorney, Paul Love, asked the judge to require prosecutors to provide him a full, unedited version of the recording.

Love says he's concerned the city was destroying evidence and altering the DVD.

The mayor says he thinks Riley is disgruntled with the city of Higginson because the city would not open a street that led to property Riley owned.

Judge Mark Pate scheduled an Oct. 23 trial.
