UNDATED (CNN) -- This beautiful butterfly is so rare, it's now considered an endangered species.
It's called a Schaus swallowtail butterfly, and it's found only in south Florida.
This month, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service gave an emergency authorization to catch live swallowtails so their eggs can be collected and raised.
In a survey last year, just 41 of the once-common butterflies were sighted.
Scientists say habitat destruction, drought, hurricanes and pesticide use are to blame for nearly wiping out the insects.
