LITTLE ROCK Ark. (KTHV) -- Lots of new shops out on South Main Street in Little Rock, all the work going on down here to revitalize the area is really getting people excited.

"This area, I think it's very hopeful and vital, people of all different generations and backgrounds seem to come here to live or visit." Laura Frankenstein moved to Arkansas three years ago, it didn't take her long to discover the hidden treasures of South Main Street. She volunteers at the Green Corner Store and shops for local products at Roots Cafe.

She's not alone, Jeremy Lewno bikes down here every chance he gets; he really likes the vibe of this community. "I like the whole neighborhood revitalization going on you know it's really a grassroots effort and the passion of the residents that are around here."

Marigolds, flowers, trees these are just a few of the components that make up the beautiful bernice gardens, hard to believe just a block away is this gas station at the corner of Daisy Bates and Main Street. Liz Sanders coordinates events for the Garden and says it's an anchor to their community.

"People come out from all over this area, a lot of it is the visibility and a lot is word of mouth but we have seen a really great group come out here and it's growing."

No matter how many shops come into the quaint area, one of Frankenstein's favorite aspects of the South Main community is the small town friendliness feel.

"We know the stories and the context, so when people come in the door we recognize each other that feels good when I'm working or when I'm a customer; it feels really good."
