LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Fraudulent messages are targeting BancorpSouth customers and non-customers.

The scam that many are experiencing is known as a phishing scam. Officials with BancorpSouth say these automated phone calls typically give the pretext of activating a debit card and ask the recipient to provide their debit or credit card and PIN for identification. They're being sent through cell phone calls, text messages, and emails.

BancorpSouth says they never ask for personal or account information through messages like these. If you receive a fraudulent message, they urge you not to give out any personal account information.

If you're suspicious of a call you've received, call (888) 797-7711.
