UNDATED (CBS) -- The defense is calling a range of witnesses today in the case against Jerry Sandusky, including his wife. Sandusky's attorney is trying to show his client could never have sexually abused young boys.

Jerry Sandusky's wife Dottie arrived at court for the first time since her husband's trial began. She took the stand this afternoon and could prove to be a key witness for him.

The defense has called more than a dozen witnesses so far trying to show the former Penn State coach had a stellar reputation as a friend and in the community through the charity he founded.

Joyce Porter knew Sandusky for 40 years and testified on his behalf. She says, "Think of all the thousands of kids who went through 2nd Mile, I mean it is thousands to 8."

The defense tried to discredit the accusers and their motives. A neighbor of one of the accuser's mothers testified she told him "I'll own Sandusky's house" after finding out about the alleged abuse.

The defense also questioned two investigators who interviewed the accusers. They tried to show that investigators led some of the witnesses to make accusations after telling them what other accusers had said.

A doctor also testified, saying he diagnosed Sandusky with histrionic personality disorder which made him seek attention from his young accusers.

Sandusky's attorney drew attention earlier in the day when he spoke about whether his client will take the stand, comparing the drama to a soap opera and telling reporters they need to stay tuned. Court observers felt it was an odd remark in a case with such serious allegations.

Sandusky faces 51 counts of sexual abuse involving 10 boys. He could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
