PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) -- Citizens in Pine Bluff can now receive official alerts from the Pine Bluff Police Department via text message or email.
The Pine Bluff Police Department announced a new program to help broadcast important information directly to registered members of the public vie email or text message. The service, called TipSoft Alerts, is available now.
Members of the public can register for the service by visiting the Pine Bluff Police Department's website www.pbpd.org or the Pine Bluff Police Department's Facebook page.
"We're constantly searching for ways to improve public safety, and adding this ability to directly alert the public is an essential component to keeping communities safe," said Chief Brenda Davis-Jones. "Raising awareness about recent trends and keeping the public informed with relevant information is part of our job."
TipSoft Alerts, which is made by PublicEngines, allows members of the public to opt-in to receive alerts from the department. The registered user can elect to receive messages via email or text message according to their preference.
TipSoft Alerts is a companion tool to TipSoft, which allows the public to submit anonymous tips to law enforcement via text message, iPhone, Android or Web browser.
"TipSoft Alerts is another way that the Pine Bluff Police Department is setting the pace in using technology to prevent, reduce and solve crime," said William Kilmer, CEO of PublicEngines. By using this tool, Chief Brenda Davis-Jones is taking advantage of one of the best resources at her disposal - an informed and engaged public."
In addition to being broadcast to the public, agencies may also simultaneously post alerts to their Facebook and Twitter accounts as appropriate.
