3.1M young adults gained health coverage since law took effect
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- More than 3.1 million young Americans now have health insurance, thanks in part to a provision in the health care reform law that allows parents to add dependents up to age 26 to their insurance plans. That number is up from last June, when 2.5 million young adults ages 19 through 25 who would otherwise have been uninsured gained health care coverage, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Unemployed face more competition as job openings decrease
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The number of job openings fell in April, the Labor Department reported Tuesday, another sign of weakness in the U.S. labor market. The report showed 3.4 million open positions for the month, down 8.7% from the 3.7 million openings in March.
The drop in available jobs means there are 3.7 unemployed job seekers for each opening, up from 3.4 in March, meaning there is greater competition for the available jobs.
Survey shows McDonald's lowest in fast-food satisfaction
Being the biggest doesn't necessarily yield the happiest customers, according to the American Consumer Satisfaction Index released Tuesday. Oak Brook-based McDonald's Corp. received the lowest customer satisfaction ranking of any full-service or fast-food chain on the survey, with 73 percent satisfaction, up from 72 percent. McDonald's, which serves 68 million customers around the world every day, has been a historically poor performer on the satisfaction index.
Spotify launches iPhone streaming radio
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Spotify's playing a new tune. The online music service on Monday announced the addition of a free radio feature to its iPhone and iPad apps, allowing U.S. users access to an unlimited amount of ad-sponsored music on the go. Spotify's service lets listeners generate an unlimited number of radio stations based on songs, albums and artists. Users can "like" songs to save them to their Spotify playlists for later listening.
