LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Too often we report the negative news, but great things are happening in your community each day.

Here's a look at a few stories that are on The Brighter Side...

Giving the gift of life
It's a friendly competition between first responders, with a serious need being fulfilled.

Cabot firefighters and law enforcement officers teamed up with the American Red Cross on Thursday to raise awareness of the ongoing need for blood donations through this summer's 'Battle of the Badges' blood drive.

Captain David Dalton Jr. volunteered at the event and says everyone is asked to take a side when they donate blood.

"When folks come in, they can go for the police or fire department," says Captain Dalton. "It's a rivalry to see who can get the most donations done for the day."

All blood types are needed immediately as supplies are running low. 'Battle of the Badges' continues today and you can find donation sites in Little Rock, North Little Rock and Searcy by clicking here.

Smile worth a thousand words
In preperation of the 'Greatest Show on Earth' coming to Verizon Arena next month, Ambassadors of Laughter took over the Arkansas School for the Deaf Thursday.

Clowns Dave and Cherrie entertained the youngsters.

"We did our Reading with Ringling program, getting the kids all excited about reading and laughter and bringing the circus out to them," says Cherrie.

The job of an ambassadors of laughter is to go out approximately a month before the show, visit schools, libraries and hospitals and spread the news that the circus is coming to town.

"This is a great honor and privilege to be able to come out ahead of the show and be able to go into the communities and give something back," says Dave.

Dave and Cherrie will be performing at the Central Arkansas Library in Little Rock Friday morning at 10:30.

Tickets to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Barnum Bash are on sale now.
