BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Voters in Bentonville have rejected a millage increase that would have paid for a new high school in Centerton.

With all precincts reporting complete but unofficial results, about 58 percent of Bentonville voters opposed the tax increase. The Benton County Daily Record reports (http://is.gd/mFO4WC) that the 6.7-mill increase would have paid for a new 2,000-student high school, the remodeling of Bentonville High School and upgrades in technology and heating and cooling systems throughout the district.

The increase would have generated about $128 million and would have pushed the district's millage to 50.4 mills - the highest in the state.

Superintendent Michael Poore says he's disappointed with the outcome of Tuesday's election. He says school officials will meet soon to find a solution to overcrowding problems at the high school.
