UNDATED (CNN) -- The makers of the Blackberry seem to be struggling for a piece of the smartphone pie.
Announcing a lay off of 5,000 employees, Research in Motion, the company that makes the BlackBerry, is taking cost-cutting measures.
In addition to the reduction in force, the CEO says the BlackBerry 10 operating system rollout has been delayed until next year.
The company reported a first-quarter loss of $518 million.
