VELVET RIDGE Ark. (KTHV) -- Nearly the entire state is under a burn ban just days before the Fourth of July. The triple digit temperatures and no rain in sight is causing many cities to forgo fireworks as there are wildfires popping up all over the state. Now, firework stands are feeling the pressure. 

The Fourth of July is just days away and normally KC's Fireworks is making a profit. This season has been tough for everyone involved the firework industry in Arkansas is going to take a big hit. The hot weather has nearly every county under a burn ban, making it difficult on those selling fireworks.

Kevin and Cindy Smith spent the last 30 years selling fireworks, but Sunday, they closed up shop on count of the dangerous dry conditions.

Smith says, "If someone comes and purchases fireworks and they shoot them and catch a field on fire or someone's house then I would feel really bad."

Smith says this isn't the only year the drought will effect when it comes to sales. Kevin says, "It's effective if the individuals who have purchased fireworks and had to go to the bank to borrow the money well next year their profit will have to go to cover the interest on their loan for the year."

The Smith's say it is normally full of people shopping and visiting. They say Velvet Ridge is a tight community and they won't let this dry season keep them down. Cindy says, "This is our community this is our home this is our state and we are in a desperate situation right now and as hard as it's going to be financially it's not worth, you know a small child could come up here and buy something and we just don't want that risk."

The Smith's aren't giving up entirely; they say if we get a good rainfall they will open back up. But on the flip side, if conditions stay the same they will pack up their supplies and hope for a better scenario next summer.
