FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tenn. (CBS/WHNT) -- A woman's burned body has been found in Franklin County, Tennessee.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, the body of a white female was found in Winchester near the A. Walt Bridge at Tim's Ford lake. The discovery was made around 1:15 Monday morning.
Franklin County authorities say they "have" identified the victim, and she's from Tullahoma in Coffee County. They haven't released the name pending notification of the woman's family.
What we know according to investigators, the woman's partially burned body was found in a smoldering patch of grass off the shoulder of A. Walt Road near the bridge at Tim's Ford.
A passing motorist saw what they thought was a grass fire, and turned around to check on it. That's when they spotted the body and notified the sheriff's office.
At this point we don't know the cause of death, but there will be an autopsy to determine that.
The investigation is just beginning. Chris Guess with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office says, "It's a horrific thing to have happen, but what we have to do now is do our job to the best of our ability and find out who the perpetrator is in this crime.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is also on the case.
