FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn admitted that he doubted his team could make a deep postseason run following a two-and-out performance at the Southeastern Conference tournament.
The Razorbacks (46-22) answered Van Horn's challenge by reaching the College World Series and then some. They came within one game of reaching the championship series against eventual national champion Arizona.
Arkansas entered the season with lofty expectations and opened 22-3 before a 5-8 midseason slump left the Razorbacks wondering if they could live up to the hype.
Led by junior starter DJ Baxendale and a pitching staff that compiled a 2.83 ERA, the second-best mark in school history, Arkansas rebounded and won the Houston Regional before a Super Regional win at Baylor.
