LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- According to the Arkansas Forestry Commission, crews are working various fires across the state.

Spot fires jumped to two different locations in Dallas County, destroying more than three-hundred acres and threatening a number of homes.

A National Guard Black Hawk showered the ground with water hoping to spare as much land as possible in Dallas County.

The two spot fires covered 320 acres of the northern part of the county, near Leola. This fourth of July brought more fireworks than expected for Doyle McKinney.

"We got in the car and we come here and there was smoke everywhere."

Nearly all fire response units of District 5 worked the area to suppress the blaze. Bart Bachelor of the Forestry Commission in Hot Spring County says heat is not the only factor.

"We're having troubles with the breakovers, the winds, just this low humidity is really hurting us right now."

Bachelor says the dry weather creates the perfect conditions for fires to spread rapidly especially in rural forested areas.

"It's a lot of Pine plantations in this area it's just hard to get around the head of them."

Doyle and Connie McKinney watched as both Leola Fire Department and Poyen Fire Department worked a blaze at the edge of their property. McKinney says without the help of these fire men and women his house would be gone.

"If you don't appreciate them, start appreciating them, because I think they're the reason our house is still here," says Connie McKinney.

Today's THV spoke with the Forestry Commission and as of last night crews were still working the two fires. The commission estimates more than 30 responders are on the scene.

There are no reports of house damage at this time.
