MACHIAS, ME (CNN) - A young Canadian girl and her family put a message in a bottle, and watched it float away in 2000.
And the fruit of their efforts landed on an island in Maine 12 years later. Late last month, conservationist Becky Lee was picking up trash on Tibbett Island when she came across the bottle.
"I picked up this one bottle, and it rattled, and I noticed there were rocks in it. So, I went to dump the rocks out, and I noticed there was also a note inside the bottle, um. So, I got really excited, and I was like, 'There's a note in this bottle,'" says Becky Lee, excitedly.
The note was from then-three-year-old Taryn McKee of Ontario. Yesterday, Becky got in touch with Taryn, who's now 15. Taryn doesn't remember the message in the bottle, which was the work of her parents.
But she does have vague memories of that first family vacation.
