LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The state Republican Party says state Senate hopeful Tommy Caubble has died. He was 65.
Arkansas GOP Chairman Doyle Webb said Caubble died earlier Thursday morning of a heart attack while spending time in his family's peach orchard.
Caubble was the the co-owner of Caubble Peach Orchards and served as president of Phoenix Grainery, both in Wynne.
Caubble won the GOP nomination for state Senate District 23 without any opposition in the May primary. He was challenging Democratic Rep. Jerry Brown, who also won his party's nomination without opposition.
Party spokeswoman Katherine Vasilos said the GOP will notify Gov. Mike Beebe within five days that it plans to hold a convention to fill the vacant nomination.
