LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Too often we report the negative news, but great things are happening in your community each day.
Here's a look at a few stories that are on The Brighter Side...
Free activities out of the heat
Where can you go in central Arkansas to beat the blistering heat? Today's THV has a few ideas and best of all, they're free!
I CAN! birthday celebration
Help I CAN! Arts and Resource Center blow out the birthday candles at the building's first-ever Birthday Bash, held on July 6 to toast the "birth" of Phase One of the center. The extravaganza will be a true birthday party, complete with balloons, a bounce house, music, arts and crafts, games, a cake and much more. Guests are even encouraged to bring gifts to help stock the center with arts and crafts, office and cleaning supplies; look for gift registries at Target and Wal-Mart.
At the bash, attendees will have their first chance to register for the center's programs, including soccer, and art, music and dance classes for children with disabilities. Kids ages 9 and up who are interested in volunteering can sign up as Buddies to assist children who need one-on-one help.
The center will be run by Community Connections, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing extra-curricular activities to children with disabilities. Funding for the building was provided through a grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission in cooperation with Saline County; however, hundreds of individuals, businesses, and other non-profits have given their time and/or financial assistance to complete Phase One of this project.
The event is free and open to all; it will be held Fri., July 6, from 6-8 p.m. at 1040 Angel Court in the East End Community of Saline County.
