LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Speaker of the House has appointed Buddy Johnson as the parliamentarian for the 88th General Assembly.

Speaker Robert Moore announced Monday that he's tapping Johnson for the post.

The House parliamentarian helps the speaker prepare the daily calendar and assign bills to their appropriate committee.

Johnson will replace parliamentarian Tim Massanelli who has served in that role for decades.

Johnson is an Ashdown native who previously was the legislative services coordinator and assistant parliamentarian.

Speaker-designate Darrin Williams told Moore he also plans to appoint Johnson as parliamentarian for the 89th General Assembly.
