Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says he expects the 2014 governor's race to be the most expensive in state history.
McDaniel said Tuesday that he assumes his campaign for the top office will cost $10 million to $12 million. The Democratic attorney general is the first candidate to join the race.
McDaniel says he expects to start raising money soon but that people won't see "true vestiges of the campaign" until next year. He says he's now focused on his job as attorney general.
Earlier this year, retiring Congressman Mike Ross said he wouldn't enter the Democratic race. Former Lt. Gov. Bill Halter is also considering a run.
Gov. Mike Beebe can't seek re-election because of term limits.
McDaniel spoke Tuesday in a live interview on the Talk Business website.
