Garrett Uekman Foundation 7 on 7 Tournament at War Memorial Stadium, Friday and Saturday (July 13 & 14)
Young athletes (in divisions ranging from fifth grade to high school-age) will face off in a 7 on 7 football tournament this Friday and Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.
The two-day event is in honor of late Razorbacks tight end Garrett Uekman, who died unexpectedly in the fall of 2011 due to complications of an enlarged heart. The tournament is hosted by the nonprofit founded in Uekman's name, which works to raise funds for heart disease research and education, as well as scholarships for student athletes.
Cost: The tournament is $250 per team.
Safe Sitter Class at Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock, Thursday, July 12 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Safe Sitter is a medically-accurate, hands-on, class that teaches boys and girls ages 11-14 how to handle emergencies when caring for children. They'll learn what to do when a child chokes, how to call for emergency help, babysitting business skills, basic child care skills (diapering, feeding, etc.) and how to entertain children.
Kids Cook! Summer Fruit at Eggshells Kitchen Co., Thursday, July 12 2-4 p.m.
Kid's Cook classes are built to both entertain and instruct kids ages 8-12. They are hands-on and fun, helping kids learn to appreciate nutrition, flavor, and the basics of the art of cooking. The Summer Fruit course will feature summer berry cake, peach jam and watermelon lemonade.
Kids take home the recipes, extra tastes and a cooking utensil.
