LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- While most Arkansas kids are still enjoying their summer, school is in session at eStem Charter School.

The longer school year is allowed at charter schools, which can apply for waivers from the state. Charter schools can also have longer school hours.

"Most schools go for 128 days that is what the state requires as the minimum. We usually go about 20 days longer than that," says John Bacon, CEO of e-STEM Charter School.

"Every year gets a little bit better because we have a little bit more experience and students who have been with us longer."

"It feels like we only had a month off and that's kind of painful," says Jackson Fitzgibbon the school's student body president.
