ATKINS, Ark. (KTHV) - School nurses play a vital role in a child's health and their job doesn't stop at taking a student's temperature.

Margo Bushmiaer, school nurse and coordinator of health services for the Little Rock School District, sees a variety of health issues on a daily basis.

"It's just in the data. Things happen, accidents happen. 70 percent that happen to children, happen during the school day and children are at school," says Busumaier.

From management of juvenile diabetes to a bee stink, last year the Little Rock School District health rooms stayed busy. In a district of 26,000 students, school nurses provided 162,235 services to students. This number doesn't include the thousands of mandated screenings the nurses performed during the school year.
