CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - The editor of The Oxford American literary magazine no longer works at the Arkansas-based publication.

Publisher Warwick Sabin confirmed Monday that editor Marc Smirnoff and managing editor Carol Ann Fitzgerald were no longer employed at the magazine as of Sunday. Sabin cited personnel issues in declining to specify why the two were gone.

Smirnoff founded the magazine in 1992 in Oxford, Miss. According to its website, the national publication features stories about the American South.

The magazine relocated its base to Arkansas in 2001 and moved to the University of Central Arkansas in Conway in 2004.

Employees were locked out of the magazine's office last week. Warwick says a personnel investigation was being conducted but he didn't indicate what the probe is about.
