CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) -- It may not be on your mind right now but school will be back in session for many Central Arkansas students in about a month.

And for some high school students, it means some impressive new digs for classes, including a $40 million building opening in Conway.

There were special tours Thursday night for significant school district donors in the new high school that's hard to miss while driving along Prince Street in Conway. And while there's still work to be done before the August 20th opening, we still got a good taste Thursday of what's head for all 10th through 12th graders in the district.

Work crews were busy Thursday afternoon buffing floors and washing windows at the future Conway High School.

"A great math teacher here, he's going to demonstrate some things on one of our new smart boards," a tour guide says to a group of district donors.    

The cleaning was all in preparation for special tours of the three-story, $40 million dollar building, replacing the old Conway High School West.

"I think what it does is show what value this community puts on public education and how much this city values the children under their care," Superintendent Greg Murry said.  

We caught up with Superintendent Greg Murray in one of the school's six computer labs. He says the whole place offers much-needed space in classrooms, art rooms and a college-style lecture hall for larger gatherings.

Up on the third floor, there are big changes ahead for science. There are ten science labs, up from one in the old building.  

"This space is going to be so much better," Senior Faith Reed said.  

Students, like Faith Reed, also got a sneak peak Thursday. As a member of Key Club, she gave tours Thursday night.  Reed says that she looks forwards to "experimenting" in those science labs.

"You know every year you look forward to doing the crazy stuff like dissections and stuff like that and we haven't really gotten a feel for that because we didn't have the space," Reed said.   

Now that they do, Reed and others are fired up for school and ready to replace all these folks in the halls.

Superintendent Murry that says the work ahead includes flooring and installing some technology elements. But he says that the building will be ready for opening day on August 20th.

Funding for this new high school came from a mileage increase that Conway voters approved in September of 2010. The building will roughly double the old Conway High School West, which was torn down to make way for this project.
