UNDATED (CNN) -- Summer is the time to clear your mind of school and enjoy the heat? Well, too long of a break can end up hurting a kids over-all ability to learn.
Stay at home mother Anna Catalina says she loves the summer time with her family, however she has one concern.
Catalina says, "There's things like handwriting and math that you do need to do everyday to not lose um just your focus and you do kind of backtrack a little bit if its been 8 weeks, 9 weeks that you haven't done math."
Once the kids have enjoyed their day in the sun, a guidance counselor steps in to help keep the kids engaged in activites. From sports to arts she says its important that they are reading.
Reports indicate that summer reading is a good way to improve a childs skills often keeping them above the curve.
