LOWELL, Ark. (AP) - A former police officer in Lowell has filed a lawsuit against the city and the police department that claims he was fired for refusing to carry out what he calls an "unlawful ticket quota" order.
The Benton County Daily Record reports that the lawsuit by former officer Kevin Knight claims the unwritten order called for each officer to write 20 to 25 traffic tickets each month.
Knight worked for the Lowell Police Department from March 2007 until January 2012.
The police chief when Knight was an officer - Joe Landers - died in May. Current police chief Randy Harvey said he hasn't seen the lawsuit and can't comment on it.
