Mariah Carey joins 'American Idol'

UNDATED (CNN) -- Singer Mariah Carey can now add "judge" to her list of credits and a former presidential candidate makes a guest appearance on a sitcom!

It's official! Music superstar Mariah Carey will join "American Idol!" the five-time Grammy winner is set to make her debut on the judges panel this upcoming January.

The 43-year-old pop diva released a statement Monday saying quote... "as a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with "American Idol."

Actress Sofia Vergara is making her television rounds this season! "The Modern Family" star is slated to guest star on an upcoming episode of "Family Guy" playing Peter Griffin's fantasy love-interest.

Vergara will also lend her voice on Fox's animated comedy "The Cleveland Show" this season.

Former presidential candidate John McCain will make his cameo on a sit com. McCain will join fellow republican Olympia Snowe and democrat Barbara Boxer on an episode of the NBC sitcom "Parks and Recreation."

Amy Poehler's character heads to Capitol Hill in an episode titled "Ms. Knope Goes to Washington," airing in late September.
