LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Officials with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department say the Big Rock Interchange is entering another phase of lane shifting this weekend, which includes the closure of two loop ramps.

Weather permitting, only the 1-430 northbound lanes will be moved during the weekend lane shift. The southbound lanes will not be affected, according to AHTD.

More details from an AHTD release:

The contractor is scheduled to complete hanging the flyover ramp steel beams Friday evening on the western side of the Interchange. The next step will begin on Saturday, July 28 as workers close the I-430 northbound loop ramps (I-430 North to Financial Center Parkway and the I-630 East to I-430 North) and direct drivers to the detour using Shackleford Road.

Also on Saturday, a combination of one and two of the I-430 northbound lanes will close for up to 24 hours as workers shift and stripe the lanes. Delays can be expected. Once the northbound lanes are shifted, this traffic pattern will last for approximately 8-10 days.

"Motorists have done a great job of staying away from the Big Rock Interchange since we started hanging these steel beams," said AHTD Director Scott Bennett. "We thank the public for their patience, and we ask that they continue to be patient for the remainder of this significant phase of work."

Message boards, detours and advisory speeds are posted throughout the interchange area.
