FREMONT, Wisc. (CNN/WBAY) -- A bald eagle returns to the wild in Wisconsin after recovering from a bizarre accident.

While swooping down to pick up some road kill this bald eagle crashed head on into a semi truck traveling near Fremont. Driver Brian Baker says, "He got wedged in the grill and was not moving so I opened the hood and he looked up at me and I was very startled, then I called the Waupaca County Sheriff's Department, they came out to assist me."

After a vet checked out the eagle and diagnosed him with a concussion. He was then put in the hands of pat fisher, who runs the Feather Rehabilitation Center in New London. She's still stunned the eagle survived. Fisher says, "Amazed, incredible is a better word for it, especially when you saw the pictures and the second picture had the head through the grill, and almost into the fan belt, and I'm thinking holy expletive."

Fisher allowed the eagle to regain his strength in a secluded cage, watching his progress only from inside her home through a camera system. After about a month he was ready to be released which was an emotional moment for fisher. As many of the birds she cares for, don't make it back to the sky. Fisher says, "They always drop down first and then he climbed and he climbed and he climbed, and he banked and he was up over the trees, and I thought you couldn't ask for anything better than that."

Baker says the eagle caused about $2,000 in damages to his truck but holds no hard feelings towards the animal. He says, "They are a very tough animal. I'm glad to see everything worked out for him and me, I'm glad it ended the way it did."
