FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Police in Fayetteville say a homeowner shot and killed a houseguest during an argument at the home.

Police told the Northwest Arkansas Times that 32-year-old Jonathan William Ball died at Washington Regional Medical Center following the Friday shooting.

Police Sgt. Craig Stout says Ball was shot by homeowner John Christopher Short as the two men fought over a rifle while they argued. The nature of the argument was not revealed.

Police say Ball had been staying with Short for several days and that Short had told Ball he had to leave.

Police say Short has not been arrested and that the investigative report is being sent to the county prosecutor for review.
