LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republican Arkansas Congressman Rick Crawford says he'll skip his party's national convention later this month to focus on trying to build support for the farm bill.

Crawford on Friday said he planned to travel throughout his east Arkansas district to talk with farmers about the record drought conditions they've faced this year. Crawford said he'll skip the party's national nominating convention in Tampa, Fla., to focus on farming issues.

Crawford is a Republican seeking a second term and sits on the House Agriculture Committee. Democrats have criticized Crawford and House Republicans for going on recess without taking final action on a five-year farm bill.

Crawford is being challenged by Democratic nominee Scott Ellington.
