Great-grandparents found guilty in hot-car death of Springdale toddler Joniah Darius Chronister

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KTHV) - According to our affiliate KFSM, the great-grandparents of 2-year-old Joniah Darius Chronister have been found guilty of misdemeanor negligent homicide.

KFSM reports 51-year-old William James Staten and 61-year-old Margette Inise Staten were initially charged after leaving the child in their vehicle in front of a store while it was 102 degrees outside.

Rescuers told KFSM that the temperature inside the car likely rose to 150 degrees. The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital the same day.
