PERRY COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- Crews are working to contain a grass fire in Perry County near Casa.
According to the Arkansas Forestry Commission, the fire has spread to around 600 to 700 acres at this time on Deltic Timber land off of Highway 155 between Highway 10 and the top of Casa Mountain toward Petit Jean.
We're told that AFC, U.S. Forestry Service, several volunteer fire crews, and Deltic Timber are working the fire, along with single-engine air tankers.
Officials say the fire is 30-40 percent contained as of 4 a.m. Anne Offield, Perry County OEM Director tells us fire crews went home about 2 a.m. but are expected back out to fight the fire Tuesday morning.
Our affiliate KFSM spoke with the Perry Co. dispatcher who says the entire town of Casa has been evacuated. Red Cross has opened up a shelter in Ola for the evacuees.
The shelter is located at Two Rivers School District on Highway 28.
