LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Sept. 6 in a lawsuit over a proposed constitutional amendment to legalize casino gambling.
The high court agreed to hear arguments in the lawsuit filed by Texas businessman Michael Wasserman, who is backing a proposal that would grant him the exclusive right to build casinos in Arkansas.
Wasserman filed suit earlier this month after he fell short of the required signatures needed to get the measure on the ballot. Wasserman says the state should have given him an additional 30 days to gather more signatures.
Also Tuesday, the Arkansas Supreme Court granted a motion to intervene in the lawsuit filed by the Arkansas Racing Alliance, an organization backed by Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.
