MABELVALE, Ark. (KTHV) -- Saline County Sheriff's Department officials say Joel Rodriguez choked, dragged and beat a woman after attempting to shoot her.
The incident happened on August 9 at around 2 a.m. in Mabelvale in Saline County. According to the report, the victim told police Rodriguez, 25, had struck her several times on the head with his hands. He then pulled a pistol out, stuck it in her mouth and pulled the trigger, but nothing happened.
Investigators say he began choking her and dragging her around the residence while beating her and telling her she was going to die. He then placed the gun to the back of her head and pulled the trigger again, but it did not fire. He began beating her in the head with the pistol. He grabbed car keys and left the residence in her vehicle.
Deputies and U.S. marshals found and arrested Rodriguez in Little Rock Wednesday. He was taken to the Saline County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder.
