LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Healthy aging is about much more than staying physically healthy; it's about maintaining your sense of purpose and your zest for life.

Studies show that seniors who are remain socially connected live longer than those who don't.

Senior Citizens Activities Today (SCAT) provides an array of activities and programs for seniors, in addition to  transportation, food and help with household chores.

"We are a United Way agency and we are promoting older, wise, livelier seniors," says Executive Director JinJer James-Green. "[Our programs] help combat depression, which is so prevelant in elderly and helps them with their health, which is always a concern for the seniors."

Unfortunately this organization's funding has been cut by about 33-percent.

"That is a big cut for such a small agency like us so we're scrambling trying to make up the funds," says James-Green.

To help raise funds, SCAT is hosting a Community Rummage Sale on Saturday, September 15 from 7 a.m. to noon at the Parkview Towers parking lot (1200 S. Commerce) in Little Rock. Along with plenty of bargains, there will be hot dogs, sodas and popcorn.

If you have any items available to donate, please contact JinJer James-Green at 501-374-0123.
