GAMALIEL, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say two people have been severely injured after falling off a bluff in northern Arkansas.
The Baxter County Sheriff's office says deputies responded to a 5:18 p.m. emergency call Tuesday of two people who had fallen off a bluff near Bidwell Point Park on Lake Norfork.
Officials say they were transported by the Gamaliel Fire Department Rescue Boat to a nearby location, where medical helicopters picked them up and flew them to a Springfield, Mo., hospital.
The victims were identified as 44-year-old Vernon Henson and 49-year-old Elaine Royer, both of Mountain Home. Their medical conditions weren't immediately released.
Witnesses say the two were going to jump from the bluff into Lake Norfork, but they fell about 35 feet.
They were found about 12 feet from the water's edge.
