LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The longtime owner of a Lincoln blues bar has died in Arkansas.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/ThJNEB) Larry Boehmer died Tuesday at a hospital in Berryville, Ark. He was in hospice care due to lung cancer.
The 65-year-old Boehmer booked the first blues bands at the Zoo Bar in the 1970s and later bought the business.
Over the years, hundreds of blues bands played at the bar, including Otis Clay, Buddy Guy and Robert Cray.
Boehmer's sons Jeff and Tim Boehmer and longtime bar employee Pete Watters took over the business when Boehmer and his wife, Rosalie, moved to Eureka Springs, Ark., in 2000.
Watters says the Zoo owners are still working on plans to commemorate Boehmer. Bar patrons, musicians and friends of the bar have been leaving condolences on the Zoo Bar's Facebook page.
