CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) -- Politics professor Dr. Jay Barth of Hendrix College in Conway gave his American Parties and Elections lecture from the Democratic National Convention via teleconference.
It is a class for young political scientists, American Parties and Elections at Hendrix College. Wednesday, with a click of a button, Professor and Delegate, Dr. Jay Barth, taught his class from Charlotte, North Carolina.
"The Arkansas Delegation Party is going on. I'm sure they will start calling the hogs any minute," joked Dr. Barth.
"Being able to speak with our teacher at the convention is entirely different and invaluable," says student Adelia Shiffraw.
"This is actually my first year that I can actually vote for president so I am very stoked about it," says student Lance St. Laurent. "He gave us that perspective that we get nowhere else. He gave us the inside of the convention or at least the inside of a closet near the convention."
"We are no longer bound by four walls. We can have an engaged conversation with someone many hundreds or even thousands of miles away just as if they are sitting here at the podium," says David Hinson, Executive Vice President at Hendrix College.
A type of long distance learning taking students right to the action.
"If I wasn't excited for this year's elections before, and I was, I really am now," says Shiffraw.
Dr. Barth was selected as one of the 55 delegates from Arkansas to attend the convention.
